About Nicola
I’m Nicola Mayer-Wood, a child and adolescent psychotherapist with a Diploma in Child Psychotherapeutic Counselling and an MA in Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy.
I work with children, teenagers and young adults aged 5-25, offering creative, relational, and trauma-informed therapy. I am registered with UKCP and BACP, and have worked across schools, mental health services and private practice in Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire. I work face to face in Tring and Aylesbury, or online if preferred.
My work supports young people in making sense of their feelings, behaviours and relationships — helping them grow in confidence, self-awareness and connection. I work closely with both the young people and their families to strengthen emotional connection and understanding.

Working with me
I offer a non-judgmental space for young people to explore difficult feelings, develop resilience, and build a stronger sense of self. Whether a young person is feeling anxious, withdrawn, overwhelmed, angry, or simply unsure of how to express what they’re going through, the therapy can offer a space to begin making sense of things.
My aim is to meet each child or young person with sensitivity, creativity and care — helping them feel seen, supported, and better equipped to navigate their inner world and the relationships that matter to them. I support those facing a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges, including anxiety, low mood, emotional dysregulation, family conflict, school difficulties, identity and self-esteem issues, bereavement, separation, and trauma. I work with both neurotypical and neurodivergent young people and adapt the therapy to meet their individual needs.
As a DDP-informed practitioner, I recognise that relationships are central to emotional wellbeing.
Alongside individual therapy, I also can support parents and carers to strengthen understanding and connection within the family. Each therapeutic journey is tailored with sensitivity to the needs of the young person and those around them. I work in a trauma-informed, relational way — drawing on psychoanalytic thinking, attachment theory, play-based approaches, the arts, and somatic work.
